Community Carries Burdens

Galatians 6:1–10

In the 1992 Olympics, British sprinter Derek Redmond was on track for a medal when he suddenly tore his hamstring during the 400-meter semifinal. As he struggled to stand, a man pushed through security and ran to his side. It wasn’t his coach. It was his father. He wrapped his arm around his son and helped him finish the race.

That’s what biblical community looks like. We don’t run alone. We carry one another when the weight gets too heavy.

Galatians 6 gives us that exact picture. Paul writes, “Carry one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” He is not calling us to pity. He is calling us to love in action.

A burden is more than a daily responsibility. Paul distinguishes between loads we are expected to carry and burdens that require help from others. Paying bills, managing your schedule, and handling everyday stress—that’s your load. But when a personal crisis, loss, or deep emotional strain hits, that becomes a burden. And burdens are meant to be shared.

Paul reminds us that none of us are self-sufficient. Not even the strongest. Moses couldn’t lead the people of Israel without help. Paul himself was comforted not just by the Spirit but by the presence of Titus. If they needed help, so do we.

Burden-bearing is not an optional ministry for the spiritually gifted. It is a command to all believers. It is how we fulfill the law of Christ, which is to love one another as He has loved us. That love doesn’t always show up in grand gestures. It often looks like a quiet visit, a home-cooked meal, a small gift, or a listening ear.

But there is one thing that will stop us from carrying one another’s burdens: pride. Pride tells us we don’t need help. Pride says others should figure it out like we did. Pride creates a wall between our need and God’s provision through His people.

Are you open to help when life gets heavy? Are you willing to help carry someone else’s burden when they are struggling? If you are not giving or receiving support, pride might be getting in the way.

We were never meant to finish this race alone. At LifeBrook, we believe that community is not just a nice idea. It is God’s design for growth, healing, and spiritual endurance.

Let’s be the kind of church where no one carries their burdens alone. Let’s finish the race together.
