Designed for Generosity: Seeing Money Through God’s Eyes

Designed for Generosity: Seeing Money Through God’s Eyes

This past Sunday at LifeBrook Church, we explored a topic that impacts all of us—money. But instead of just talking about budgets or giving, we asked a bigger question:

What if we were never meant to relate to money the way we do now?

For many, money brings stress, security, or even fear. But was that ever God’s intention?

The Tale of Hetty Green When Wealth Owns You

Hetty Green was once the richest woman in America, worth what would be $2.5 billion today. But instead of living with joy, she lived in constant fear of losing her fortune.

She refused to turn on heat to save money.
She wore the same tattered dress every day.
She delayed her son’s medical care to avoid paying, which led to the amputation of his leg.

When she died, all her wealth stayed behind.

It’s an extreme example, but it raises a sobering question: Are we managing money, or is money managing us?

God’s Plan for Money

From the very beginning, money was never meant to control us. It was designed to be a tool for trusting God, blessing others, and furthering His mission.

We Were Created to Reflect God’s Generosity (Genesis 1:27-30)
Just as a mirror reflects light, we are called to reflect God’s generosity in how we manage the resources He provides.

We Were Created to Rely on God’s Provision (Matthew 6:25-34)
Jesus reminds us: “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be provided for you.” Trusting God with our finances means releasing control and believing He will provide.

We Were Created to Use Money for God’s Mission (Deuteronomy 14:28-29)
Wealth was never meant to be hoarded. It was designed to fuel ministry, outreach, and discipleship.

A Shift in Perspective

At LifeBrook, we believe generosity isn’t an obligation—it’s an opportunity. Every act of giving moves the mission of God forward.

So, what’s your next step? Maybe it’s trusting God with your first gift, setting up recurring giving, or simply shifting your perspective to see money as a tool, not a master.

Because when we see money through God’s eyes, everything changes.
